Take a stroll through Kerrisdale Village and you may feel like you have
stepped back to a place where time has stood still. I'm a frequent visitor
to Kerrisdale and I love the village for it's wonderful combination of
vintage charm mixed with modern retail boutiques. Some of my favorites are
the 'Hill of Kerrisdale' which has been around since the 1920's as a third
generation family business. Christmas time is especially charming in
Kerrisdale with free horse carriage rides and roving quartets all set in the
beautifully decorated village. Kerrisdale is still a place where you can
order 'High Tea' at establishments like the Secret Garden Tea Company. No
wonder Kerrisdale was originally called Kerrydale meaning 'Little seat of
the fairies'.its quite simply the stuff that dreams are made of and truly a
place where you would want to raise a family in an idyllic setting that is
not far from the city core.
Kerrisdale is a great example of mixed architecture with newer houses and
older bungalows, as well as various low and mid-rise rental and condo
apartment buildings in its northern section. The southwestern part of
Kerrisdale is known as Southlands and derived its name due to its location in
relation to the city although not always well known by even Vancouverites as
a horse meca.
There are a number of private and public schools in the Kerrisdale area, all
with superb Fraser Institute ratings. Bus transit is frequent to UBC which
is right beside Kerrisdale, however you will find that many students will
simply bike to UBC. The close proximity of Kerrisdale to UBC offers unique
opportunities for secondary suits and laneway houses for extended families
and rental income investors.
You won't soon forget Kerrisdale, if anything for its beautiful cherry
blossom lined streets, manicured lawns and well maintained gardens which I
have no doubt was inspired by world renowned florist Thomas Hobbs, who owns
and operates Southlands Nursery.
